Gargyle was born out of an affection for early country club lifestyle. The first American country clubs were founded as rural sanctuaries where city dwellers could engage in games and sports, savor the arts, and relax in the outdoors, all while mingling with family and friends who shared similar interests and urban sensibilities. Fashion was conspicuously important in this culture, since whatever your activity was, appropriate and impressive dress was a must! Golf or tennis, croquet or archery, chess or book readings, dinners or dances – these were all opportunities for members to articulate their individuality and flaunt their style, be it traditional, innovative, or a combination of both.

 

At Gargyle, we’re devoted to this aspect of vintage country club lifestyle and aim to revive and modernize its spirit. We’re inspired by tradition, originality, and imagination, and captivated by beautiful objects and novelties of yesteryear. We love golf, tennis, concerts, parties… anything that lets us have fun with our friends and family.
