The one-woman show behind New Kid, Rachel Beagley, has relocated to the Tuscan Hills. Perhaps a tad earlier in life than the usual expat in Italy, but if you are to make shoes, you may as well do it in the land of shoes. Regardless, many of the same traits remain: flat, comfortable, wearable styles…with a hook: familiar and novel all at once, a pair of shoes that appeals to many women, which can be integrated into any wardrobe. Winter 2010 is looking fresh and exciting, influenced by memories of the 90's, trashy music, and slacker films. Somehow the countryside edged its way in there, too. The main focus has been contrasting textures and reinventing classic shapes. One way or another, this mish-mash of ideas turned into something special, and a real rite of passage occurred.
