If Not For You – Bob Dylan v George Harrison v Olivia Newton-John
If Not for You – The original, by Bob Dylan (1970 album, New Morning), was covered the same year by George Harrison (1970 album, All Things Must Pass) and released one year later by Olivia Newton-John (1971 debut solo album, If Not For You). I love all three versions of this song, but my favorite has to be Olivia Newton John’s because 1) I grew up listening to it on the mixtape dad made for mom, 2) Olivia’s voice and the slide guitar are a match made in heaven, and 3) her goofy dance moves in the video are fantastic! Which version gets your vote?
