If you’re anything like us, a collaboration between the Dirty Projectors and Björk is kind of a dream come true. A strange, trippy, challenging, exciting, surreal, alien dream come true.
Last spring when the Icelandic queen of her own inimitable sonic world joined up with one of New York’s most audacious and ambitious young bands for a joint gig at Housing Works no one could quite imagine what they would pull out of their collective hat. We probably shouldn’t have been surprised that it was about whales. And we probably shouldn’t have been surprised that it was amazing. Finally the full seven song cycle is available for download (see below).
Since proceeds from downloads go toward marine conservancy, we can all feel good about bringing some more wonderful wailing harmonies and oblique lyrical adventures into our lives. Saving the whales has always sounded kind of weird, but never in such a good way.
Ladies and Gentlemen, for your consideration: Mount Wittenberg Orca.
